So what exactly is a terrarium?

They are a creative and beautiful way of keeping plants in the home.

Designed to look like works of living art, we try and replicate nature in all its glory to make it look like a little slice of the forest.

There are 2 types: Open and Closed Terrariums

closed terrarium is a clear vessel containing humidity loving plants that perhaps would not do as well in the open air of a modern home. Think mosses and plants usually found in humid forests.
By carefully selecting the species of plant to go into each terrarium, they are their own enclosed little ecosystem. They are designed to live undisturbed and with minimal care for many years.

An open terrarium can contain much more tolerant plants. They function much the same as a closed only they are open to the surrounding air and do best with plants not requiring humid conditions to thrive.
Cacti, succulents and air plants are good candidates for open terrariums.

SUCCULENT TERRARIUM - CARE & MAINTENANCE

Care for these open terrariums is incredibly simple. They are a great way to add colour into your home/office space while requiring minimal care.

Light
light is an important part for the terrarium to thrive. We recommend a good about of light for these sun worshiping plants. If placed in a darker corner of a room, or a space that doesn't receive much natural light, we suggest a grow light to keep your plants happy and healthy for years to come. They need 8 to 12 hours of light per day.

Water
These plants are drought tolerant, meaning they store water much more efficiently that plants used in closed terrariums.
We recommend watering infrequently using the plants themselves as a guide to their next watering. When thirsty these plants will lose their turgidity and feel slightly squishy to the touch. This is a good indication to water the plants.
We recommend a spray bottle in a smaller enclosure. A sign of overwatering will be the drainage layer at the bottom is full of water, we would advice to cut back on water if this happens.
During the winter months we recommend you do not water your plants at all, and allow to be kept bone dry till the weather improves in spring.
