A delightful mint with a beautiful purply / black leaf, especially good for making tea as it is said to be stronger than the white variety.

This peppermint is a must for any herb garden just because it looks so pretty (but don't forget to grow it in a container even if you sink it into the ground so it doesn't take over).

Native to Tasmania so likes a sunny position.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

Did you know It can treat acne, the flu, colds, cramps, shock, asthma, and stress.

Mint oil is derived from the leaves of the apple mint plant. Monks thought that the herb mint might treat epilepsy.

A flower from apple mint can be added to tea to promote digestion, treat intestinal conditions, and energise the brain

You are best to grow it in a large pot or, even better, to sink a bottomless bucket into the ground (leaving a 5 cm rim above ground) into which you plant it because otherwise it has a tendency to send runners out in every direction and colonise your entire herb area.

Widely grown mint for general kitchen use, its young bright green shoot tips ready just in time for the first peas and early potatoes in June. Like all mints, it’s a vigorous and very hardy perennial, spreading widely by underground runners, which are easily restrained by growing plants in containers.

For best results grow in rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun.

Mulch annually with well-rotted compost. Plants can be cut back hard just before flowering, and leaves can be frozen for use in winter. In milder regions, leaves should regrow in time for a second harvest

The leaves taste better before flowering so pick frequently and clip if you don't need any for a few days.
